Cruzin' for a Bruisin. Allow me to Introduce My Brother...

I love my brother.  He is, in my opinion and the opinion of others - some sort of a wizard.   When talking conservative principles he can break things down and unpack them in a VERY digestible way and my cluttered Momma-mind needs that.  He's got a new blog.  And a ROCKIN' podcast.  Someone get the man a radio contract.

Take a few minutes to read this.   Instead of linking it I am posting the whole thing here.  You don't even have to click and go somewhere else.  So no excuses.

Pour a cup of coffee.

I think you're really gonna like it.   You might feel the overwhelming desire to paint your face blue and go all William Wallace on someone's a$$- I sure did.

Of Blackjack and Filibusters, Timidity and Temerity

In his work A Theory of Gambling and Statistical Logic, Richard Epstein says that when we are playing an “unfair game,” our most optimal strategy is one of “maximum boldness.”  The gambler should, that is, be wagering “the maximum amount permissible consistent with his objective.”
I was reminded of this again last night while sitting at a Blackjack table.  Recreational gamblers will sit for hours and hours at a Blackjack table piddling away their bankroll with minimal bets, hoping merely to be there when a run of good cards occurs.  The problem with this strategy, of course, is that in most cases one squanders one’s bankroll just trying to hang around waiting for the run to happen, such that when it does happen it only helps them recover some of their losses they’ve already incurred over the wait.

The reason that this occurs is, of course, that Blackjack is an “unfair game” in the technical sense.  The house has a statistical advantage over the player, with the result being that, on a long enough timeline, the house will always win more hands than the player does.  Thus, if the player simply bets in a uniform, consistently minimal fashion, he is merely opting to slowly grind his capital down to nothing.

This is why Epstein says that if one is going to engage in such a game, maximum boldness is the optimal strategy.  Notice that he is not recommending that one play an unfair game, but rather he is advising on the best way to proceed if one is involved in an unfair game.  In many cases, the smart thing to do is not to play the unfair game in the first place.  But if you are going to play the unfair game, or if you have no choice, then you must attack it.  You must be maximally bold with your bets.
Now this is so counterintuitive to so many well-meaning folks at the local casino.  And I sit next to them time and again and watch them slowly give away three or four hundred dollars, five dollars at a time, over the course of an evening, then get up from the table and mutter something about at least having had some entertainment for the evening, before heading for the parking lot empty-handed and defeated, again.

What they are doing is playing an unfair game in a way that is most conducive to their opponent’s victory.

See, the “house” already has an advantage in this game.  It is an “unfair game” in Epstein’s sense.  And even supposing the house’s advantage were a mere tenth of a single percent (such that the house’s overall chance of winning were 50.1% on any given hand) that mere .10% would realize itself on a long enough timeline.  This is what statisticians are talking about when they refer to the “law of large numbers.”  The idea is that eventually probabilities are realized.  You just have to be there long enough to see it happen.  Me winning the first ten, or even twenty, hands of a card game is perfectly consistent with the house having a huge edge on me.  If I keep sitting there, that house edge will catch up.

So what these players (I have heard them pejoratively referred to as “ploppies” before) are doing is plopping down in their seat, playing minimal bets over and over again, trying to make their money stretch, and thus allowing the house every opportunity to reach its statistical end, which equals their defeat.  Thus, as I said above, they are playing an unfair game in a way most conducive to their opponent’s victory.

This is why Epstein says that IF you are going to play an unfair game, your optimal strategy is “maximal boldness”.  In so many words, he is saying that the “ploppies” are fools to sit down with their three or four hundred hard earned dollars and piddle them away five dollars at at time.  What they should be doing is waiting for a moment, perhaps when the spirit leads (depending on  your metaphysics) and chucking that whole stack of money, or half of it, or whatever, into the wagering circle and being done with it.

Yes, they might lose their whole bankroll in one or two hands of play.

But look, that is just the point!  They MIGHT lose.

But when playing an unfair game they are GUARANTEED to lose if they do not play with such boldness.

And this statistical insight is an intuition that many, many unsuccessful gamblers lack, and which largely explains their lack of success.  They simply cannot get up the gumption to attack.  And so they are whittled away slowly by a game that is stacked against them from the outset.

And this is not only true at the Blackjack table, but in life too.

I have been reminded of this as I watch Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) almost single-handedly attack, with maximum boldness, a utterly unfair game dealt by an utterly unfair political foe, Liberal Democrats.  The game is stacked against Senator Cruz in every way imaginable.  Not only is he viciously slandered by the opposing political party while he tries to fight to save our republic from an increasingly brazen totalitarian mindset, but he is slandered by those in his own party who are mere political “ploppies”.  They have not an ounce of courage in them.  They prefer to sit and squander their political capital (and their constituents’ tax dollars) in losing hand after losing hand, merely so they can sit at the table (i.e. in elected office) longer.  They are the epitome of cowardice.  And when a man with common sense, gusto, and temerity steps to the table to beat the unfair house at its own game, the most they can muster is to mutter and mock him.  They are losers.  And the bankroll that they play with is your hard-earned dollars.  They refuse to fight back against a game designed to destroy… not them, but YOU.  And they cannot imagine what could possess a man to stand up and do otherwise.

I am painting with a broad analogical brush here, and surely mixing my metaphors a little too haphazardly for some dialectical purposes.

But the man of Common Sense does not need rigorous argument, he needs a reminder… a reminder to be BOLD.

He knows that in this world the game is stacked against him, but he is tempted on all sides by the ploppies’ plea of “moderation”.   Likewise the Conservative knows that his enemies prey on the ignorance of their fellow men, in order to erect structures inimical to the freedom of man and the full flower of his abilities and capacities.  But he is surrounded on all sides by a subtle and insidious call for minimal boldness, by those who only want to have a seat at the table a little longer into the night, even if it means losing everything that they have.  Correction:  Everything that you have.

Now is no time for timidity, but for temerity.

Every ounce of my respect, in every fiber of my being, goes to the man who stands, fights, attacks the enemy head on, with maximal boldness.  I have seen too often in my life the pathetic sight of a man almost asking for permission to engage his enemy in battle.  In fact the whole system of Naturalistic metaphysics and Evolutionary thinking that underpins the Marxist/Socialist ideology that Liberals have embraced gets by on precisely this sort of cowardice on the part of those of Common Sense who know that worldview to be a lie, and know it to be propagated unfairly, but are too timid to fight with maximal boldness a game stacked against them from the start.

King David, in the Old Testament, stepped forward not just to fight Goliath, but to MOCK him!!  ”Who is this uncircumsized Philistine who DARES to speak against the armies of God?”  Likewise, the Christian, in the New Testament, is exhorted and implored to “be BOLD, and be STRONG, for the Lord Your God is with You.“

I salute Senator Ted Cruz, and every man who looks evil in the face and laughs, then thrusts his sword straight at it no matter how far back behind the battle lines his countrymen stand trembling, hiding, like little David’s brothers in all their supposed military might.

There is yet a remnant of people in our land who share this courage, who share this love of freedom and truth, and who share this inextinguishable hatred of oppression, even oppression in its clever guise of a subtly encroaching soft tyranny.  The Founding Fathers of our country were such.  And they have sons and daughters among us today.  They were willing to push all they had into the wagering circle in a gambit for freedom and victory over a system designed to  take advantage of them.

You know no fight, you Goliaths, like the fight that burns in their chests.

Keep mocking.  Keep laughing.

This is what Goliath was doing when a lone stone from a small boy’s sling shot shattered his forehead.  And he was stone dead quiet as that little boy cut his head clean off with the giant’s own sword.

I Can't Take it...

I mean honestly.

I am watching the Dem Convention...

If I hear anyone else whine about the right to abort... and then the next speaker down the line has the gall to say that being concerned about the levels of the ocean is something from the Scriptures ...
(Ahem Caroline Kennedy and John Kerry)

I just can't stand it.

"Save the Whales, Kill the Babies".

Of course, The Bible says to be a good steward of the earth... but what do you think God is more concerned about... Babies, made in His image being torn apart or killed upon delivery, stabbed in the neck with scissors??? (partial birth abortion) or the glaciers melting?  (Like they did so many years ago before anyone ever heard of the word "emissions"....)

Just sayin'.

Hey Girl...

I don't know about you but I can't decide who I am crushin' on more tonight...
Paul Ryan or Clint Eastwood.

I usually hate these things...
but I have to say I am rather enjoying this.

Feelin' kinda hopeful.
Anxious for some change.

Buyers Remorse Anyone?

Ok, just got back from a MUCH needed vacation.
Didn't check the news for a week... until last night
(Woot, Woot, Wisconsin!)

Found this too, and I about spit my anniversary champagne all over the MacTop.

Someone took my current favorite song...
(It just has such a cool, vintage, Peter Gabriel sound to it - I just love it)
Anyways, someone took my favorite song from this summer...
Well, you'll see...

Secession Anyone?

I read once, there are a bunch of islands for sale in the Caribbean.
Let's just all pitch in, buy one, and start over.

Honestly.

Can I, as an individual, secede from the Union?
Anyone with me?

She Pac and Bill Maher - Exposing the Double Standard, A Common Sense Rant

Look,
I don't listen to Rush ...despite what some of you think!

But I can spot a double standard
 a country-mile away.

Don't get me started on Ms. Fluke or her desire to have me pay for her extra-ciricular
sex-tivities... though it would make for a fun post!

But I declare, if you can't see the hypocrisy of the media in rushing to Ms. Fluke's aid when it comes to what Rush said as compared to the lack of interest in what Maher said about Palin a couple years ago and all the other horrible things said about conservative women... Well, I think it's pretty much sick.

Side note: To all you Anon's that want to jump up my you-know-what --Let me tell you, I am not even a big Palin fan... nothing against what she says, I just find her a bit "campy" However I think it's time to go start with that extra large "E" on the top of the chart it you can't see the hypocrisy.

I have to say, I might not listen to Rush, and I might find Palin "campy" but I abhor Bill Maher.  He is one smug you-know-what... and I love how he "unveils" his benevolent check to that Pac group... does he want a cookie?  For crying out loud, how many hard working people in this country actually make a SACRIFICE to give to the political group of their choice???
Do they make a big stink about it?
Hardly.

It's just gross.
You can't buy class and Maher has proved that once again.
I don't have T.V. so when I stumbled upon this She-Pac ad was pretty happy that someone put it out there.

Whew, now that that's off my chest I will be pouring a much deserved glass of champagne after a long day of magazine promoting at a GORGEOUS shop on Chicago's Gold Coast.
6 hours + 3-inch heals = My dogs are barkin'!

Bon Weekend.

Lucy, Ethel, A TSA Worker and my Husband

I swear, half the fun of blogging is naming the post.

Like being an O.P.I. nail polish namer!  Wouldn't that be a riot?

I saw this story the other day about a nursing momma who was forced to pump her milk because a TSA worker did not believe her when she told her the "item in question" was a breast pump.  God bless her--- thinking she would be one step ahead of the game she emptied her bottles... you know, the whole liquid on a plane thing.  Then she gets in line and the stupid TSA agent didn't believe her that the now empty bottles were for milk and the pump was a PUMP and not some bomb or something.  So she goes into a bathroom with her three kids and pumps her milk to fill the bottles - at the sink, in a dress and heals (I'm impressed she was dressed for traveling!) - cause you can't really cram three kids into a bathroom stall, sit on a toilet and pump can you?  That would be horrible.  She then goes and proves to the TSA worker by showing them the bottles full of fresh milk that everything is on the up and up and she is allowed to get on the plane.
Let me tell you something girls...

That would be the day.

I heard this story and gave my husband plenty fair warning that this would not bode well for us if it happened to me,
"I'm telling you right now babe.  We would end up on the news.
Is that OK?"

(I always ask "permission" before being outrageous.  Like I did before I yelled at the stupid "Recall Scott Walker" people one day this fall when we were in Wisconsin.
He is my husband and I don't want to embaress him but let's be real - he knows who he's married to!)

So here's the thing.
I'm a semi-modest nurser.
I mean, I can't wear a blanket thingy cause my babies just HATE that but I am not whippin' my boob out for the world to see either.  It's not a crime to nurse... you lift the shirt, the baby latches on, no one can even see anything.  (People just get their panties in a bunch cause they KNOW what you are doing.)  A bathing suit shows more flesh than a discreetly nursing mom for goodness sake.  But on that day... on that day that a TSA worker is stupid enough to see me, with a baby and three other kids in tow and still wonder if I was a fricken' terrorist with a breast pump bomb - well that would be the day that Lucy and Ethel would make a VERY public appearance right there in line.
I'd fill those d - - - bottles for the world to see!!!
At least then I could be arrested for a legitimate reason like "indecent exposure."

For-crying-out-loud.

Gotta love these classic scenes...pardon the french.

Heavy Hearted Weekend

There is plenty of time for recipes and fashion opinions and Oscar fashions but
It is with a heavy heart that I follow up with you this Friday on a post I did some months back...

It appears by today's stories that Iran has committed Pastor Youcef to death.

A trial court in Iran has issued its final verdict, ordering a Christian pastor to be put to death for leaving Islam and converting to Christianity, according to sources close to the pastor and his legal team.
Supporters fear Youcef Nadarkhani, a 34-year-old father of two who was arrested over two years ago on charges of apostasy, may now be executed at any time without prior warning, as death sentences in Iran may be carried out immediately or dragged out for years.

I do not wish to elevate one life above another.
I know people die and loose loved ones all over the world at any given minute however I am so sad for this family has they have experienced and will experience things that you and I can not fathom.
I sit here, with the freedom to pray and read my Bible, the freedom to attend church on Sunday and I take it for granted in a way that is up hauling.
Meanwhile people like Youcef are willing to die for Jesus.
Willing to say goodbye to his beautiful wife and darling boys (whom I imagine he has not seen in some time) for the sake of Christ.

"For me to live is Christ, to die is gain."
Phil 1:21

We American Christians are so spoiled.

He will be with his Savior in heaven and only seperated from his family for a short time when you consider eternity... but what a brave man.
What a sick world.

Of course we should not give up praying for a miracle.

Let us not forget the Voice of the Martyrs.
Let us not forget that people all over the world are being killed for their faith in Jesus.
Let us not forget two little boys who will grow up without a father in a culture that despises their faith.

Let us not forget our own children growing up in our culture that despises their faith.

I hope you hug your family tight tonight and thank God for
(whatever amount of) the freedom we have left.

Is it Just Me?

Or is anyone else fricken' going broke from buying groceries???

Honestly.

Ms. Frugal.
Ms. We Don't Eat Boxed Food
Ms.  Costco
Ms. Trader Joe's
Ms.  I Buy Bulk Flour
Ms.  We eat lots of Beans
Ms.  I Grow Food in my Garden
Ms.  I Can Make Food Stretch Like Nobodies Business

Ms.  Loosing her mind cause I can't keep up!!!

I don't want to be negative because I am always telling people that it doesn't cost the ridiculous sums that "they" want you to believe it costs to raise children - in fact I have this huge post written in my head on the subject...

I can't figure it out but I haven't yet sat down and tried.
Here is what is going on:  I was spending $400 a month on groceries.  I was soooooooooo proud, it seemed unheard of!!!  But lately my children are eating like adults.  I have told you before how much and how well they eat and recently I joked how much Juliette eats -I am not joking.  She eats so much it's scary.  And Aidan, well, he is a GROWING boy.  "More please, more please, more please".   Today I made risotto for lunch and just a couple months ago we would have had enough left for the kids and I to eat leftovers for dinner.  Today there was a paltry amount left in the bottom of the pan.  And this bun in the oven coming in September will be eating off a plate by next March!

I could give you so many examples of how careful and frugal I shop but it would bore you...
I buy two and three bunches of bananas at a time because they are affordable and POOF!  they are gone!  We don't even SNACK in this house!
There are things I am not willing to sacrifice - I can't go to Aldi and buy "cheap" dairy products and meat.  The dangers are too high but I tell you what... these days it doesn't even make a difference that we don't eat deli meat and chips and all that.
This last trip to the store was $195.00, that was five days ago and I am already feelings it. We didn't even buy MEAT!!!

Thank goodness we have those chickens!  Eight eggs a day has been my saving grace many-a-times!
And thank goodness this is our first season of our self proclaimed "urban farm".  I pray it actually makes a difference when we look back a year from now!

So what is it?
 Is it inflation?
Crazy food prices?
I am just stunned lately.

Thankfully the growing season is here but I am only one woman caring for three small children.  We don't have a cow, we don't have a goat.  I love gardening but can only spend so much time out there and we don't have an acre for crying out loud!  AND gardening is wonderful but it's not free either... I can see why people FREAK out and shout from the rooftops that we all need to know how to harvest, keep and store our own seeds...

Organic milk is $6 a gallon!
We don't even DRINK it!
I use it for cooking!   Time to find a cow share...

Has anyone else felt this change in their lifestyle?
I know there are lots of procreating Mom's out there...
Does anyone find their mind wandering to what we
are all going to do when inflation REALLY hits???

Or is it just me?

Skip the Next Election... With Additional Comment by Moi

Here are my "additional comments" -
First:
Seems like, from the great comments I have received, that some think I actually watch The View.
 Ick.
We don't watch T.V. - and if I did I would NEVER watch The View.  However, I do surf the political websites and listen to the radio online and thus, consume pop culture by osmosis.

Second and please read my tone kindly:
I know I both concern and upset people when I talk about our government/president/country, especially fellow Christians.  I am constantly encouraged to pray instead of get worked up.  Being passionate, and thus, occasionally worked up is a large part of my personality.  Clearly, the way God geared me up - obviously, we can take characteristics from God and sin with them, and I know I don't always say the right thing with the right heart.  However and I'll say it... again... just because I post on what I think I going wrong with this country doesn't mean I don't pray for it and it's leadership.  I will never understand why the assumption seems to be made.  It seems, from conversations and reactions you see on people's blogs and my own that if a Christian is frustrated and voices that frustration that everyone assumes they are full of hate and un-prayful in their concern.  Girls, I am not going to write a post with the words, "Today I cried out to God about..."  some things are intimate ya know - and that would seem very showy.  ("When you pray, go into your room and close the door...")  I prefer instead to encourage and, if you will, "rally" those who think they are alone in their thinking that they are, in fact, not.

Original Post begins now-

Joy(less) Behar.
Girlfriend is a piece of work.

Forgive me but I can't stand her.

Today I caught a whiff of some of the blather coming off The View,
Barbara Walters says she'd hate to be a Republican running against Obama in 2012 and Joyless chimed in that we should skip the next election.
(If you watch the clip, catch Joys follow up, "We don't blame you." slipped in real quick at the end.  Sick.)

What is wrong with people?
Our President FINALLY makes a good call, he does what he is paid to do and all the sudden lets just coronate him King and get it over with.
Skip the Election???

Anytime you hear something crazy like this just reverse it and imagine the poo hitting the fan (IE: Rush or someone saying "Let's skip the next election...")

The One has finally done something right and, well, he's not gonna let us forget that it was HIS call.  Did you notice how many times he said the words "I" and "me" in that speech?

He's shameless.  And now everyone is going to fawn all over him?
FOR ONE GOOD DECISION???
I didn't really like our former President but how about a little credit where it's due?  Why doesn't Obama give one of his famous "shout out's" to Bush???

There are so many things jacked up with this situation, including my own heart towards "enemies"...

-Who IS going to run against King Obama?
Buhler?  Buhler?  Anyone?

-Time to admit, Waterboarding DOES work!

-Unity, Shmunity!  All this "Unity" warm, fuzzy garbage takes the focus off what we are actually dealing with... debt, health care disasters, gas prices, open boarders...

-3 billion dollars requested again this year from Pakistan???  For real?

-Let me ask again... who IS going to run against this (ego) maniac?  Is there ANYONE out there with some fire, some passion, some STANK, some OOMF???
Honestly - it's an embarrassment.

I know I am all over the place here.
That happens to me when I have a lot on my mind, things are such a wreck in this country and I could do political blogs every day but I know that's no fun.  I am not trying to rain on any parade.  Obviously our Navy Seals kick butt and we should be very proud!  Release the photos for crying out loud - let's show off!!!  (5/5 update - these words, "show off" have really been haunting me, they are not what I meant, they were just easier to write.  I meant something along the lines of that fact that we did what we set out to do, justice has been served and I don't think as a country we should feel ashamed about it on the global scene.  I wasn't saying "revel in the blood" or anything crazy vengeful like that.)  But I don't think this is going to affect our daily life do you, aside for a much deserved feel good moment.
 Justice has been served.

... but perhaps today I should be called "Pessimistic Farmgirl".

Sigh.

For fantastic insight on how a Christian should react to the death of an enemy - check out this brief article.

ALL MY CHILDREN... Cancelled???

It's the end of the world as we know it.

AMC has been cancelled.

I about fell off the couch when I read this!

Not that I have watched anytime in the last five years but I guess,
despite the smut that it is,
I still have a soft place in my heart for "La Kane" and her Pine Valley, PA friends.

I was a die-hard, totally addicted AMC watcher for ten years.
I mean I would call the hotline if I was out of town so I could get the scoop!!!
Pre-internet days of course!
These days I have to plug in my T.V. just to watch our three hours a week we enjoy
(The NASCAR races on Sunday afternoons!).

But it's so weird, if you have ever been a soap watcher, to think that they are passé... something that is gone with the wind.
I hate popular television these days.
I'd rather watch a marathon of AMC any day than American Idol(atry).
Hilarious but true!

So, humor me (or maybe you will find this amusing) and let me recall the glory days and my favorite story lines...

I loved Dimitri and Erika.
I loved Erika period.
What a b----.
She made me laugh out loud.
When Dimitri died I was so mad, then he came back with Anna and her sister and it was just all screwed up from there.

I hated Tad.
Tad Martin.
HATED HIM!
I know, he was a staple on the show but - GAG!
I mean - get a fricken hair cut from this century already!
How in the world could you live and work in NYC with that MOP?
OK, so the photo above isn't THAT bad...

Not only did I hate Tad but I hated Dixie Cooney Martin.
Whiny, perfect, ugly Dixie.
She drove me crazy.
Every time she died or left town I was thrilled!!!

This is getting funny - it's clear that all the "good" people drove me nuts cause I couldn't stand Brooke English either!
Though you have to admit, that is a great haircut.

I loved Liza.
(The real one)
Can you tell I love the bad girls?
I loved it when she was married to Adam.  How ever many times that was.
They were a match made in heaven.
I will NEVER forget once when he was wooing her back after some scheme of his had foiled and hurt her, they were about to kiss and she asked him in frustration,
"Who are you?"
and he said with his manipulative sincerity,
"I AM you."
I thought that was awesome.

NERD
ALERT!

I loved Leo.
Speaking of nerd, get this...
I cried when they killed him off... over a water fall with his drug dealing mother.
Greenlee was never the same.

Greenlee was by far my most favorite character on the show.
I liked her cause visually she was not your typical Hollywood type.  She is short like me but KILLER bod - I always found her so inspiring when I used to run on the treadmill during the show.
I LOVE the name Greenlee too and had we not named Amélie our first choice "Amélie" she would have been called Greenlee.  I still get my gun off because we call her "LeeLee"
Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too.

Her character's fashion style was great, she was funny, bitchy and a great fit for Leo, then Ryan and then a couple years ago someone had a TV on and I saw her with...

Dr. David Hayward.
Leo's older brother.
And I thought that was probably fitting as removed from the storyline as I was by that point.
David Hayward was an awful human being and guess what...
I loved him too!

Here's a soap opera name that
DID
make it into the family...
Aidan.
Yes, my son is named after this actor and character (they share the same name) and I say that with no shame!  LOL!
I HATED "Sex and the City" and someone once asked me if I name him after the Aidan on that show to which I snobbishly snapped,
"I most certainly did not!"
I never really watched soaps for the beefcake factor, though you would have to be dead to not notice the hours Ryan spent at the gym but he has nothing on Aidan.
Aidan had the face to match the bod.
-Did I just write that????-
They never really gave him a great story line and I never understood that.  He is one of the most gorgeous people EVER and has a dreamy British accent to boot.

I also loved:
(the most recent) Kendall
Palmer (R.I.P.)
Marion
Simone
Winifred the maid
Gillian
Jackson
and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED
Zach!  He was the best male character EVER!

I also hated:
Maria
Edmund
The entire Santos family
Bianca
Tad's son - forgot his name
&
Babe

....................

Ok, that's a long enough trip down memory lane and a ridiculous one at that.
I can't believe how many hours I spent watching that crap, but looking back I find the whole thing kind of nostalgic on some sort of weird, Americana sort of level.
I hated all the other soaps but even with the years gone by since I've caught an episode,
ALL MY CHILDREN
will be missed by this Parisienne Farmgirl.

The last airing will be in September.
-N- guess what?
I'll be plugging in the TV that day!

Wisdom Eclipsed

A Rant.

Good news... I took of the "snow effect" that I loved so much for all you girls with dinosaur P.C.'s.  I was told it took 10 minutes for my blog to load tonight... :)  Bad news... Watch Ang's readers drop... it's become a game now hasn't it?  About every four weeks I go off on something and all that ground I was gaining in my readership... insert bomb dropping whistling sound here...

LOL.

I have wanted to tell you for so many weeks now about a T-shirt I saw in the young girls section at Tar-jay around Halloween...

"I Heart Vampires."

I wish I was kidding.

I Heart friggen' Vampires.
Unreal.

Now, have you seen my daughters?  Have you seen YOUR daughters?  Your grand-daughters?  Have you seen how precious, gorgeous and pure they (hopefully) are?
Forgive me, call me a prude or stick-in-the-mud, this time, I truly don't care because the last thing our daughters, the daughters in this country where so many go to bed without a Daddy in the house, where so many are raised without knowing how much their Heavenly Daddy loves them... the last thing our girls... or ANYONE'S girls need is this stupid vampire/death obsession that is so chic at the moment.

I know, I have lost a good 85% of you here.

Je suis trés desolée.

But this whole vampire thing has eclipsed sanity, it's eclipsed discretion and most surely wisdom.

The Bible clearly warns that there will be a time when darkness will be called light and visa versa but, silly me, I would like to think that some common sense would prevail out there as we select what we do and don't allow into our homes, especially concerning our daughters.  How in the world did we decide that it was good for our pre-teen and teenage daughters to become obsessed with Vampires?  As if our girls aren't already struggling with a glorification of DEATH?  Have you seen the teen girls suicide rates these days?  I know my family lost one 4 years ago and almost lost another two years ago!!!

If you are someone who claims the Scriptures to be true and I know that some of my readers do then surely we have to head it's warnings on the occult and glorification of death.  My rant gear is ready to kick into overdrive so I am going to back it down here and say I guess I don't have too much to say except this, if you are a Believer and have found your self NOT sickened by this whole trend, if you find my words "over the top" than perhaps, oh gosh, I am really going to say this??  Well, may I challenge you that you've become a bit desensitized by the culture???  Promise me Momma's and Gramma's you're not gonna buy the young girls in your life this crap for Christmas.  PROMISE ME! How, tell me, how in the world can the glorification of blood sucking teenagers be something our precious daughters need to process, read and become obsessed with???

Riddle me that.

(If you are new to P.F. yes, I do rant on some of my spiritual, policitcal views now and again... I love to joke that it's what makes me a bit unique from all the other gorgeous lavender and to-die-for vintage fabric blogs out there!  Momma says, "If they don't like it they can find another Farmhouse"... I say... I'm just trying to give you something to chew on in this world full of icky, babyfood, mush.)

Oh, of course I found this hilarious clip by my (if you don't already know) favorite pastor concerning this subject... hear 'im out... mute Charlie Brown way down towards the bottom.

Creep. The Socialist.

A "thank you" to my brother for google chatting with me this morning and sending me this... He knows me so well.
Remember that old song "Creep" by Radiohead... truth be told if I had to pick my top 5 all time favorite songs "Creep" would be in the bunch... it's haunting, desperate, sad and just goes to a very dark, feeling place in my soul when I hear it.  It makes me cry.

I cried again when I heard it this morning.
I cried for myself, my hard working husband, my children's financial futures and this country.  I know God is on the throne, but that doesn't mean that all this doesn't hurt like hell.

Enjoy.
&
 Be moved.

Green Eggs and Spam.

Ok, this is just a random post.
Or perhaps I should give a random rant warning?

But I am hanging out down on the farm with those horrid turbines flashing on the horizon and I was researching grants for organic gardening... just some ideas rolling around in my mind and I LOVE googling & researching stuff...
The ruined horizon.
At least this was spared.

Well, I stumbled upon some "Carbon Footprint" test and decided to take it.
Can you believe I would waste my time doing that???
(BTW, If you are new, It's a standing joke on this website that I always say, if I am making a Carbon Footprint can it at least be in the shape of a Louboutin?)

Anyhoo, I took this ridiculous test.  And the whole time I was thinking, well, I can't be that bad, it can't take "that" many earths to support my lifestyle.  For Pete's sake, I turn on like two lights a day, hate air conditioning unless it's horribly humid and I can't sleep, I drive less than 50 miles a week average, grow some of my own food, shop the farmers market... and not because I give a rats you-know-what about my "carbon footprint" but just because.  And not that you asked but we don't even flush the dang toilet at night!  The test asked me if I ever take the bus and I answered "no".  It asked me if I ever take the train and I answered "no" - two strikes against me apparently.  But look, not everyone lives downtown and rides their bike everywhere and has a need for public transportation.  That is such crap.  We're not all D.I.N.K.S. living in Seattle!  There are hundreds of thousands of us out here just living simple, very modest lives.  We drag our recycle bins out each week but we DO procreate and drive Suburbans!

Insert scary organ, cliffhanger scene music here!

That "scientific" test tried to shame me by saying it takes 3.9 Earth's to support my "lifestyle" - um,  I stay home with my hair in a knot pour la plupart, I would not call that much of a "lifestyle."
It just kind of ticked me off and I wanted to share.  Not all of us who eat organic, use a clothes line and keep the lights down worship at the alter of Al Bore.  (And don't even get me started on how many MILLIONS that putz is gonna make if Cap -n- Trade Tax goes thru!) We don't all think we are going to run out of oil in the next ten minutes and we aren't willing to sacrifice the American Economy (or what's left of it) for the sake of only pursuing renewable energy.  I don't want to be lumped in with the wind turbine, over population loons.  I simply want an uncomplicated life, not so much running around and good food.
There is just so much hypocrisy in the green movement I want nothing to do with it.  Organic, fine.
I'll take my food without a side of chemicals thank you.
Green, I don't think so.
You'll never convince me that these "researchers" aren't blasting their air conditioning at the Universities while they are trying to figure out how to save the planet and flying in big jets to their stupid summits to do the same.  And you will never convince me that man is causing the earth to warm.  That just seems so narcissistic to me.
I am rambling here.  But the whole thing is getting a little old.
We should be good stewards of the Earth, not worship it.
It's just out of control, look at that crazy environmentalist they had to take down this week - he thought babies were evil!  And Jack Kevorcian get's applause from Hollywood this week too???
Sick.
Sorry, that stupid test just irritated me.  Thought I'd share.
*POOF*
There goes all my new followers!  (another P.F. standing joke!)
LOL!

Bon Weekend and Happy Labor Day!  I am off to Home Depot to buy some of those eeeeeeeeeeeevil, energy sucking light bulbs for all my chandeliers before they make them illegal!  Those toxic, dangerous curly-Q things they are going to force on us in the next year or two just won't look near as chic!   I promise some great recipes and photographs next week but 'til then, hope you "enjoyed" the rant!

A View into Audacity

Disclaimer:  There are a LOT of gorgeous blogs out there.  Stricly gardens, strictly painted furniture and dried lavender.  But this is not that blog.  Here in the Farmhouse, this Parisienne is romantic and feisty and, horror of horrors; quite the conservative.  I always give this disclaimer when I have had the blessing of so many new followers but everytime I mention politics I loose a couple.
  Que sera sera... Non?

I couldn't let it go.

We don't even have cable but I was not always a "no T.V." convert.  Yes, I used to fold laundry during the "great" Harpo and watch "Hot Topics" on The View.  And I am mortifed to say I used to practically bow at the alter of Doctor Hayward, Greenlee and The Great Erica Kane!
Then I noticed I was living in  a constant state of agitation, that my eyes seemed to be permanently lodged in a disgusted rolled-back state and it dawned on me that it was probably Harpo's constant advising me how to do things she doesn't have the "ah-hem's" to do (like be married and parent) and Joyless Bayhar's stupid comments.  Honestly.  I'd wash that girls mouth out with soap.

Obviously this is one more thing our President and I don't have in common.

Did it really happen?  Did the leader, (and I use the term LOOSLY), did the leader of the free world go on that blabbermouth, fat trap, yapper of a show?  Honestly, I can't even stomach it.  I am so embaressed.  I know that Michelle is now, finally proud to be an American... well these days Michelle
I'm NOT.
What a joke.  And it's not even about skipping the dang boyscouts.  It's about acusing cable T.V. of chatter when that chatter is pointing out your many flaws and then using that chatter to continue that campaign you don't seem to understand is OVER.

Yes, that's right.  THE CAMPAIGN IS OVER.  Look, you made the cover of Rolling Stone, Harpo is your best friend... we get it.
You like attention.
But how about leading?

Hay it Forward!!!

Dear God.
Could it be this simple?
Could the American Farmer FINALLY stand a chance of making a profit???

I am sure those Monsanto slime would find a way to take control,
I am sure the Monstrous Federal Government will find a reason to stall on the decision, they will find more time to do something "effective" like grill B.P,  the Coast Guard will find a reason to stop the shrimp boats from trying to save their lively hood...not enough fire extinguishers or life boats....
 but I'll ask again...
Could it be THIS simple.

You won't believe this.

No Collections Today...Just a little Golf...

So sorry ladies...
I am in the middle of projects, projects, projects...
all for the glory of the Farm Sale!!!
It's all for YOU!

But let me just say this to see if I can get a rise out of you...

Am I the only person who is mortified that our President played golf while Poland was mourning the other day????

Really?

Golf?
Aren't we all supposed to be sacrificing???
Golf?

Not a visit to the Polish Embassy to sign the condolences book?
And, even though he seems to have such a hard time picking a church - don't you think he could have found a Polish church and attended a Memorial Service???
Maybe he could have just stayed HOME and led a whole 5 minutes of his life without a camera in his face???

Dugh.

Once again - I am embarrassed by our Presidents actions.

Sigh.

Straight from the Headlines

Ok, here is something new, cause I am missing my Pop Culture and Politics rants but I know I've got a lot of new readers in the last month or so...so...I'll break you in gently...LOL...

With that disclaimer or sorts, let's begin again...

STRAIGHT FROM THE HEADLINES:

Great.

So basically we are, once agin being encouraged to be to be single, child-free, self centered, narcissistic, recycling robotrons.
We can surf the web anywhere on the earth - alone, we can come home and watch hours of mind numbing, spirit crushing television - alone, we can sit on Facebook and pretend to have real conversations with our friends and family - alone - and now we can drive, with no other choice but to be alone.
I'm hoping I don't have to unpack this, I am hoping we can all see the signs here and there... that there is little, if nil value placed on the traditional family these days.  Call me paranoid but I see things like this stupid car and it's the first thing that comes to my mind.
I'm saving money for a big ole' Suburban for me and my expanding flock of "chickens"
...I suppose that puts me one level up from Beelzubub.
