Amélie and I decided that we would wait til she was a bit older for the Nutcracker so today, when her Daddy and Big Brother left for the Museum of Science and Industry on their "Daddy Date" we had our "Momma Date" in the kitchen... five hours of baking... just me-n-her and a little Hoolie in between naps.
What a joy she is... I let her mix, squirt, lick, spread and eat. It was so precious. As the middle child I don't get the one on one time with her that I would like to. I simply must be more intentional about that. She is such a delight.
We made our Auntie Ruthie's infamous Christmas Cookies (With my new MIXER!) and though I videoed it, I went to make you a little movie and the dang thing needed a charge. I am so anxious to do more cooking and decorating videos for P.F.
Dommage.
You will need:
3 1/2 cups of flour
3 eggs
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar...oops, I left this out the first 24 hours of this post!
1 cup sugar...oops, I left this out the first 24 hours of this post!
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons of creme of tartar
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
Mix. Chill several hours or overnight.
For Frosting
1 stick butter
4 cups powdered sugar
4 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons vanilla (I use one)
mix.
Bake at 350.
Try not to eat all of them.
I can't stand it.
Momma and her girls, a self portrait. You try holding my camera with that huge lens out in front of you!
Our accomplishment? A whole countertop full of cookies for the neighbors and church.
I tried to make a Marie Antoinette cookie... I think she is so sweet. I would have so much fun making dozens of these with the really sparkly, gold and silver embellishments that you can buy! Wouldn't that be fun for a party???
So good you can eat them plain!
Bon Appetit!

The look of fierce concentration on Amelie's face as she works the pastry bag is absolutely priceless.
Looks like she thoroughly enjoyed her Date with Mommy.
Sweet!
Especially photos #3 and #4!!!
:D
You can tell Amelie was absolutely in heaven! How delightful of a mama date! And the Marie cookie looked so good I went googling for a cookie cutter to no avail.
I want one with my coffee ... right now!
precious precious precious ... you KNOW how I feel 'bout J and A
sooo sweet! love these photos! you have a lil baker on your hands! hugs, Cathy
It does my heart good to see moms in the kitchen with their little ones and actually letting them "help"! Precious memories will be your reward and daughters that cook alongside you with joy when their 18!
(Although this shouldn't be the motivation, just remember this when you're cleaning all the mess they make now; someday they'll be cleaning up for you or cooking your meals like my oldest did yesterday as I tried to finish painting before the carpet arrived today!)
Did you see how I spelled "their"?? Should have been "they're". Drives me nuts when I do that!
These are the sweetest pictures!
I was looking at your recipe and saw there was no sugar listed. Is there sugar in your cookies or only in the frosting?!!
My three chickens and I have a cookie making date on Monday!!
